An adventurous tale about a man set on rebuilding his community through love If you came across life-changing money but knew the right thing was to give it to someone else, what would you do? This conundrum is where we meet Dave Mead, the protagonist of A Life Worth Livin’. Dave is down on his luck and lost when he comes across a yard sale hosted by a rich woman, Katherine, who immediately looks down on him for his demeanor. Unperturbed, he buys a set of books from her and discovers extremely valuable baseball cards inside, left behind by Katherine’s late father. He’s torn— should he sell the cards and be set for the rest of his life or should he return them to Katherine as a final gift from her father? His decision sends him on an incredible journey of kindness, family, and love. Soon after, he gets hired by the owner of a local garage as a tow truck driver and finds love with a beautiful towing dispatcher, Corra. He even befriends Darius, a man who was set on killing Dave for towing his car; however, Dave manages to find common ground with him through football. Dave’s ability to connect and empathize leads him to his true purpose in life, which is to help those who are suffering, just like he was. Something that stands out about A Life Worth Livin’ is how it celebrates the unorthodox. Dave and Corra, for example, have a rapid love story with a marriage and children coming in virtually no time. When Corra wants to work an unconventional job, Dave supports her wholeheartedly, and she does the same for him during his missions to save those around him. Dave views anyone he loves as his family, even if not blood-related. His family is instead made up of redeemed, kind people from all walks of life. The inclusion of unity and unconditional sympathy is so important and so vital to this story. One thing I wished for more of is that some characters are introduced and said farewell to too early. I’m not usually one to propose slowing down a mystery thriller, but I did want to spend more time with a handful of characters in order for me to connect with them and feel stronger for them as individuals, not just their terrible situations. Still, I would gladly recommend A Life Worth Livin’ to readers looking for a feel-good story about the power of reaching out one’s hand to someone who needs it.
EXCITING NEW AUTHOR
‘Just finished this book by a brand new author. Was a little unsure at first, but it was an AMAZING read. Great character development, and a heartwarming presentation. Tears, joy and a deep feeling of belonging. Family isn’t always by blood.”
